Harp

The harp is a musical instrument in the extended string family, and has been around for a very long time. We know that harps were played over 3,000 years ago!

The harp is the largest string instrument, with 47 strings. Harp strings are plucked with the hands, rather than with a bow. While plucking complicated patterns with both hands, a harpist also uses seven foot pedals.

A harpist can play melodies or beautiful chords to fill out the harmony of the orchestra. It also provides different sound textures, such as ‘pings’ or a smooth flurry of sound.
